Studio Guidelines & Policies

For Dancers

  • Dancers are asked to be considerate and respectful to all teachers, parents, and other students.
  • Please no dangly jewelry
  • Please be punctual. A ten-minute grace period will be accepted for latecomers.  However, to avoid injuries (lack of warm-up) students later than ten minutes will be asked to warm up quietly on their own and join the class when ready.
  • Young students must wait inside the building for their ride to pick them up.
  • Students must be in proper dance attire for class and hair must be tied back securely.
  • Cell phone! While classes are in progress, all cell phones must be off or silent.
  • School age children and teens: please practice respect. Students are not to be socializing in a disruptive manner during the class with other students. Please come early or stay late to enjoy friends. Please honor your teacher and fellow students by giving full attention and co-operation.

For Parents

  • Teachers are only responsible for students during their class time.  Parents are responsible for making sure their child arrives on time and are picked up on time.
  • Parents are not permitted into the studio during class time so as not to disrupt class flow.
  • If your child will not be attending class, an email to the studio is very much appreciated.
  • Should a parent have any concerns or question please send an email to pmd@pmdance.com and the studio director will get back to you promptly.
  • If a relative, friend or neighbor is picking up your child, please advise the director via email ahead of time for safety reasons.
  • We request that students carefully observe our dress code.
  • All students are encouraged not to leave the room once class has begun. Please allow for appropriate restroom use prior to class. Very young children will be treated sensitively as the need arises. Preschool children may need a parent’s attention from time to time for various reasons including bathroom or behavior issues. Please do not leave the waiting room when very young children are in class without informing the teacher or having another parent responsible during your absence. We make every effort to have all children feel safe and cared for in a loving and inspiring learning environment.
  • Zero tolerance for bullying is in effect at PMDS. Our anti-bullying policy is strictly enforced to ensure a positive environment for all students to learn and enjoy classes. Bullying includes any physical or emotional abuse as well as criticizing and gossiping about other students in any form, either vocally, in gesture and body language, in writing or on social media.
Dress Code
Ballet (3–5 yrs) pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes
Ballet (6+) black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes
Modern black body suits, black shorts or tights
Lyrical, Jazz your choice of color body suit and tights
Hip Hop T-shirt, sweatpants or shorts and indoor sneakers

Class Cancellation and Make-up policy

  • Please check your emails as well as our Website for any class cancellations due to stormy weather. A message will be posted between 3 and 4 pm should we decide not to cancel a class due to dangerous driving conditions please us your own discretion regarding attendance if the driving is difficult in your area. Make-up classes will be offered when possible.
  • The studio has the right to combine or cancel classes if registration for the class is fewer than 6 students.

Class Level

Dancers are placed in the level where the teachers believe their present capacities can be best honed. Placement & level classifications are a collaborative effort and are at the discretion of the Dance Creation Faculty. Primary factor for placement are skills and abilities of the student. Other factors considered are frequency, consistency, & number of years in training and ability.

Registration

Payment must be made on or by the end of the second week of the term. If the deadline for payment is missed a 5% late fee will be applied.

Refund Policy

REGULAR CLASSES REFUND POLICY: Refunds will only be issued during the first week of the term. If a student wishes to pull out during week 1, the student will be charged the drop-in fee for the first week and the remaining weeks will be refunded. After week 2, there is NO REFUND.

DANCE CAMPS OR INTENSIVES: No refund once the camp starts.
